I was that anon a month or two back who had their health concerns dashed by their doctor, due to my age, gender, and relative life experience (female in college).

Well, that was August. My experience was so dispiriting that I didn't go back again 'til December (today) and I knew that I had to get treatment or risk infecting all of my family over the break.

I'm glad I went back; I requested a new doctor, like a bunch of you suggested, and he treated me with genuine concern. I mean, a month-long respiratory illness is not okay, and he wanted to know why I hadn't soughten treatment earlier. He gave me antibiotics and packed me off; I had been expecting him to shrug and say "not much we can do for a cold", so I was pleasantly surprised.

Then when I was on campus again (the health clinic and the campus are separated, suckily enough), he called me again, because apparently what he'd seen had concerned him enough that he checked into my file again. He wants to do more evaluation of me, right now preferably, but I can't due to money stuff.

But anyway, I'm just glad I finally went back and got a new doctor. It's nice to have your concerns about your health recognized.

I hate it when doctors don't take their patients seriously. More often than not, there IS a reason the patient is concerned.

Glad to hear your new doctor's on the ball. It really, really sucks to have a doctor dismiss what are ultimately valid concerns about your health.
