I think it's sad that we're supposed to get rid of delightful overbites and adorable gaps and cute vampire teeth. Actual dental deformities that cause harm (like my brother had), sure, but a variety of smiles is a lovely thing. I have an overbite and my front teeth overlap slightly (top and bottom) and I wouldn't change it.

Totally agree. There is nothing wrong with teeth that aren't straight and perfect. I had teeth coming in sideways, so, yeah, that had to be taken care of, but most of the time when I see kids get braces it's for the most trivial of details that no one but them notices. If your teeth are healthy so what if there's a few gaps or a little crookedness?

For the record, I think overbites can be incredibly adorable.

I like this comment. I had an ex for a long time who says he should have gotten braces but never did - his bottom teeth were noticeably crooked. But I thought he was the most beautiful person~

Some overbites can cause joint pain later in life, along with other complications. I had my bottom jaw surgically moved forward to prevent arthritis and other things later in life.

(Bear in mind I am not a doctor and I had the procedure done over 5 years ago, so I'm a little fuzzy on the details)

Yes, that was my brother's problem - his overbite was so extreme that it was causing jaw problems even in his teens. I'm definitely not opposed to medical orthodontics!

I have a bit of an overbite and "fangs", but no one but me ever says anything, so I'll assume they don't care! I guess it would worry me more if someone ever does point it out negatively, but for now I'm fine. :) Although my jaw does click all the time and sometimes gets stuck. I'm not sure if that's due to my overbite...

I had a pretty severe overbite as a child and ended up needing braces. I couldn't tolerate the headgear, though, as it caused immense pain, so after about five years of braces (which, btw, totally destroyed the enamel on my teeth) I still had some amount of overbite, although nowhere near enough to be harmful. But they were still like, "Well... it's not perfect, but if you really want the braces off..."

FUCK YES GOOD GODS I DON'T GIVE A SHIT IF I HAVE A TINY LITTLE OVERBITE IT LOOKS FINE STOP MAKING ME BE IN CONSTANT PAIN GOOD FUCKING LORD.

Agreed! I have a very noticeable gap between my two front teeth, and while I used to be insecure about it, I've come to love it.

Agreed! Deformities or health hazards are one thing, but I've come to appreciate the fact that little things like overbites (and crooked noses or anything else like that!) can be very endearing and give a person quite a bit of character.
