Word. I can't wait till January.
elaminator: (Spartacus: Agron/Nasir)

I've never seen Rome so I can't speak of the quality...but I love Spartacus. I don't even feel guilty about it and don't see why anyone else should either. *shrugs* (And yes, the fact that the show doesn't shy away from male nudity is nice.)

Can't wait for it to return!

'Rome' is amazing. Great cast and writing, and an AWESOME production design that makes movies like 'Gladiator' look cheap. And while there's not as much male nudity, you do get a full-frontal shot of James Purefoy, who is yummy.

I don't feel guilty watching Spartacus. It's well-written, it's honest in its approach to the time period, and is one of the most feminist and POC-inclusive shows out there.

THIS. All of this. I expected a full-on guilty pleasure when I first looked it up, but by the end, I couldn't call it that. It's genre-ish as all hell, but it's too good to be a guilty pleasure.

This is the reason I wish I liked Spartacus. I watched the first couple episodes and couldn't get into it, but seeing all the pictures of naked or skantily-clad men makes me wish I liked it and keeps tempting me to try again.

I almost stopped after the first episode, but it gets so much better. It takes a few episodes for it to get on its feet, and then it's phenomenal.

Honestly, B&S takes more than a couple episodes to find its stride, I was iffy for the first few as well but it gets much, much better as it goes along.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
After the first two episodes, it gets a lot better and just goes on from there. It's more genre-ish and a bit campier than a lot of the highly praised cable shows (think Game of Thrones), but it also does a great job with its plot and character arcs, and that's just in the first season (I haven't seen the second one, thanks to the FBI taking MegaVideo away).

IA. I love that about Spartacus! It surprised me a lot at first, but in a good way.

Is the gay couple still alive? I know the writer said he wanted to keep them alive together for a while, since every other gay couple had been killed off before. (Though really, every person in that show tends to die after some time).

Nasir and Agron are both still kicking as of S2, but anybody who knows their history on the Third Servile War knows what's coming.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what's coming. But hey, at least they're still alive, right?

I assume both are dying? :(

don't read unless you want to be depressed also probably spoilers for the end of the series.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
The first and second gay couples are dead. The third is still alive.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure Lucretia is the only character who has been in every single episode, and that's mainly why I like Spartacus. Also, it amuses me that whichever character we're supposed to relate to the most seems to do less swearing than the other, depending on the season. XD

I initially began watching "Spartacus", for some very specific reasons. Namely, the fact that oodles & oodles of the people who were behind the scenes on "Xena: Warrior Princess", were responsible for "Spartacus." Didn't hurt that the Warrior Princess herself was in the cast.

As far as the "Dude-Bro" demographic of the show is concerned... who cares? I happen to be just a regular ol' gay guy [whatever ~that~ means], and I love the Hell out of "Spartacus", and watch it with my BFF, who is a straight guy.

Now, Steven S. DeKnight, creator, head writer and executive producer of all-the-"Spartacus", had this to say in an interview once: "One of the other things that I’m still to this day getting comments about is, and I put this in air quotes, all the gay shit in my show. And people asking me to tone it down, which I always say no. I mean, as far as I’m concerned it’s barely in there to start with. And it was part and parcel of this world and it’s part and parcel of our world now. So I just – yes, I ignore that. If people want to stop watching the show because two guys kiss, well, I shrug my shoulders. You know, that that will always be in there."

NAGRON Forever!!! FanboySqueeee!!! That is all. ;P SN: Apparently, Katrina Law (a.k.a. 'Mira'), is a big Nagron fangirl, there's a youtube video/radio interview and everything, a video titled -"NAGRON's Fangirl Queen Katrina Law Talks About Filming Nagron Makeout Scene"

Just finished the first season and that's why I love it, too. Boobs are everywhere, certainly, but it's one of the few shows that never seems stuck on that alone...the guys are naked and fit, too, and the camera never lets us forget it.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it'd be hard for Rome to go back and fix itself after it got canceled...

OT, but related to Rome: I had a classmate tell me he was surprised the characters on Rome were totally immoral. I could not make him understand that Greco - Roman morality and Christian morality were not the same thing, and that people couldn't be Christians before Jesus even started preaching. I think my brain broke after that conversation.

Well now I might have to check this out. I saw Mo Tancharoen tweeting about it, but wasn't really interested until now...

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
As an Australasian, I find the kiwi accents of the various MENA slaves too distracting to take the show seriously.
