Spec Ops secret!

It's funny cause I thought of it the other way around: Walker is Drake slowly realizing he's a mass murderer.

But really, I was surprised at how much range and talent Nolan North has. Guess there's a reason he's in every game.

OP here

Yeah, I'd kinda thought about it that way too, especially if you take the dev's suggestion that this is Walker's afterlife where he's atoning for his sins into account. But him being in denial after being rescued from Dubai and inventing this whole new fantasy life while being inhumanly detached... just made more sense to me.

Yep, me too. Even though he's kind of still doing his "Drake voice" for Spec Ops, he has to display a lot more emotional range with it than in Uncharted. I was really impressed.

Drake's kill count is mostly a function of the style of game he's in, and in any other form of media the number of people he kills would likely be closer to the Indiana Jones character types he was modeled around. This secret does make me wish more games acknowledged the fact that the protagonist in many games is basically slaughtering enough people to populate a medium sized city. It would be nice to see more games exploring the horror of war rather than brushing off quadruple digit kill counts that would make any real person look like a complete sociopath. I like shooters and don't want them all to change, but more variety and introspection would be nice.

A recent release that kind of does this is Farcry 3, the protagonist starts to realize all the horrible things he's done throughout the game, although it doesn't play with it nearly as much as Spec ops did, its still nice to see when a hero is actually affected by all the violence around them.

This reminds me of a scene in one of the Metal Gear Solid games when Snake is travelling down a river and you see the ghosts of everyone you've killed in the game so far. If you manage to get to that point without killing anyone, there's no one there. It makes you think about how you're playing the game.

Yep yep. I love Uncharted for all the exploration and stuff. But shooting armies of guys puts such a downer on it. I have a hard time killing fictional people.

I just can't stop wondering where all these hundreds of guys are coming from. The hell kind of recruitment drives do these bad guys have?

I know. That is one hell of a 'security team' you've got there. I was just dying of laughter when they came rolling in with the tank and the helicopter in the second game. I mean WTF.
Are they being paid by the millions to risk their lives here? At what point does the cost of your small army become more than what your artifact is worth? So many questions, so little logic.

AHAHAHAHAHA THAT'S SO GREAT.

Innit tho. After the ending when Walker gives up his rifle, he's already clearly lost his mind. Only now he's no longer Conrad, he's a plucky adventurer! He can still be the hero! No matter how many people he kills for cheap trinkets! (Which he then attributes bizarre magical world-ending properties to in order to justify it all. I'm not sure if Elena, Zoey, and the rest really exist either, or if they're just Drake/Walker's imaginary representations of his lost squadmates.)

It makes the Uncharted games about a billion times better.
