Do you have any idea how many comic-girl poses of Hawkeye would have to be drawn in order to make women feel the same kind of contempt and entitlement for Hawkeye's body that comics fans feel for women?

I don't know, either, but I promise you it's more than will ever actually be drawn.

Then you don't know the power of tumblr. Because trust me, it can be done when tumblr fanartists put their minds to it.

Best post.

I swear, some people don't know the difference between sexualizing the female body in a vulnerable, submissive way and how when males are depicted in "sexy" costumes, their poses are always reflective of the male power fantasy (wide stance, bulging muscles, etc, etc).

To see a male in a submissive pose is quite a shock, and it shouldn't be. We're just so used to seeing pop culture through the prism of the male gaze.

Women are not going to feel that kind of contempt and entitlement for any male body no matter how many silly poses we see. That stuff runs too deep to be extinguished in our lifetime.

But, it would be some kind of self-hatred to keep quiet about it, wouldn't it? We can't extinguish it, but we can try to make it harmless and have some fun with it at least.

I have a big problem with the idea that anyone should view anyone with "contempt and entitlement". Beeing a woman myself I'm disgusted enough with the way women are portrayed in most comic books, i don't need to bring more of this bullshit into the world. I would just be glad for a bit more eyecandy for and less sexism about women.
