Well, this depends on what you mean by "fans should be allowed to notice."

Should you be allowed to talk about it's flaws in your own space in such a way that people can opt in if they choose and scroll past if they don't? Sure! Bonus points if you aren't so wedded to your opinion that you are willing to engage in a real intellectual dialogue about the pros and cons of the comic. That's pure meta fun.

Should you force this conversation on fans who really don't want to discuss it? No. That's obnoxious.

so, in essence, squee or get the fuck out because we don't want you here.

good. good.

AYRT:

No. What I'm saying is if people are squeeing, that's their squee space, don't hijack the conversation to have your meta. That's dick behavior. However, if you want to discuss the issues, discuss away, just do it with an audience that actually wants to listen to you.

You have the "right" to say your peace. You don't have the right to force people to listen to you if they don't want to. That's just a particularly obnoxious form of attention whoring.

Okay. Sure. I challenge you. Let's engage in a real intellectual dialogue about Teahouse.

AYRT: Sorry. I can't. I haven't read that webcomic. I do miss the days when I could engage in meta about the flaws and strengths of something without it devolving into someone frothing up about how offended they are or bullying people with minority opinions. There used to be some really neat conversations about the art and tropes and such, all done quite civilly and enjoyably. These days not so much. People get too angry for it to be worth while, and they are too used to echo-chamber agreement for there to be much worth in exploring their assertions. These days meta isn't a launching point for conversation. It's the final word on the subject. Which sucks.

Oh you lazy ass/pussy

You're the cancer that is killing OEL yaoi.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-12-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely the first one! Most all of the fandom is there for the silly porn, and busting in on their fun screaming "THIS SEX IS PROBLEMATIC GUYS LISTEN TO MEEEE" would just be rude!

It's just that it's difficult to find a forum where people are willing to talk about the story in a little more depth - most discussions on the site itself tend to be buried by the sheer volume of comments, the majority of which are about camping or asking the same question about some aspect of the page that's already been answered 570 times.

(And I know a lot of people think it's dumb to try to analyze/interpret a "shitty yaoi comic," but I actually think flawed works can lead to some really excellent discussions. I've had some great conversations about Twilight, for instance, and nobody's holding that up as a shining example of brilliant literature.)

The comments on Teahouse riffs at http://cry-some-more.demon-sushi.com/ (under the *ahem* "Prostitutes R Us" tag) sometimes have discussions on the problematic issues of Teahouse or thoughts on how the characters or story could be improved from people who clearly are following the comic, if only for a hate-read (they're critical of the Teahouse forums and authors, but generally I get a feeling of "there's potential, but things are just handled so badly" in the comments).
