I will not lie...

I may or may not just be using it as an excuse to draw Hawkeye in sexy poses. Or because I freaking hate everything about that cover. Or both. Por que no los dos?

Mostly, though, I think it's still an effective message, especially when some artists do group pics with other heroes as well. Fangirls, for the most part, yeah we are kinda used to seeing this sort of thing anyway, so the Hawk-shock wears off after awhile.

But I think a lot of guys, especially the kind of guys who still spout "But the MEN are idealized TOO!" really aren't used to this. And it's not just confined to a little fansection of deviantart. It's up on oodles of main comic and nerd news sites. And it makes them uncomfortable. Did you see that guy who was ranting on bleedingcool about how disgusting and awful it all was? And everyone basically told him, "Now imagine 99% of the male heroes look like that at any given time, and you'll get it.

And if it makes a few dudebros feel super Hawkweird...well, I won't cry over that.

Oddly enough I haven't seen any guy say they were weirded out by it. A lot saying they were empowered by it and a few saying they were turned on by it.

Maybe I hang out with weird guys I dunno.

Most of the guys I hang out with wouldn't be weirded out be it either. But it just takes a quick foray onto the bleeding cool forums or similar places to remember that fangirls are kind of a subculture of a subculture. There are still pleeeenty of dudes who do get freaked out by that sort of thing, and fuss that women want to take all the sexys out of comics entirely.

Those guys just also tend to not be the types I hang out with.

I haven't really been paying too much to all the brouhaha surrounding the Hawkeye Intiative. Links? Especially for the bleedingcool one? It all sounds so very interesting, and something I really want to dive deep into once my finals are done. :)

I honestly can't remember the links (I'm only half certain it was bleeding cool and not CBR). The original link to the "WAH, WOMEN ARE MEAN" rant may have been in the comments section of the article at the Mary Sue--most of the "brouhaha" that I followed was from there, or from hoursago, since I've been following that artist for awhile now (Blue's a fun and fab artists, so I highly recommend checking them out).

I'm just grumpy that it all went down when I was at a con. Because dude, I would've jumped on the bandwagon a lot faster.
