I wish the extremist on both sides of the religion debate would either sit down and shut up, or get locked in a room to argue with each other while everyone else gets on with their lives.

I feel this way about any two groups of extremists hating each other.

Where I live there was recently a lot of hate between really extreme right-wingers and pretty radical Moslems. With that level of extremism on either side, it was kind of tempting to suggest just locking all of them together in a really big room and leave them to their fates while all the non-radicals get on with their lives.

I actually completely agree, tbh. The only reason I specified religious vs non-religious is because those are the two major groups where I live, and well...It gets a little tiring after a while, you know? but really - any groups of extremist could be fit in there, and I'd agree with it too, nonny.

I kind of have to wonder who "extremists on both sides of the religion debate" include. On one side, we have the theocrats who want to force everyone to live by their religious rules, take away people's rights, and demonize those who don't believe what they do (or worse, who don't believe at all) -- and on the other side... ?

IA. Those arguments always stem from people creating a false equivalency between religious extremists and liberal extremists. IMO it's just people thinking being an "in between" of those opinions, pointing fingers at both sides, makes them look more intellectual or something.

Where I live that would qualify as 'People who believe that other's shouldn't have the right to believe in God' and 'People who have threatened to actually attempt to kill those who do - including threatening their children' but you know, apparently 'the right to choose your religion' isn't actually a right, according to you.
