To the OP of that TJ and Amal/O Human Star secret last week, thank you! I hadn't heard of OHS before, but I read through it and I'm really enjoying the story, even if it has one or two off moments. I also blasted through Starfighter recently after a mention at Teahouse, of all places, and its story seems a lot more interesting than I'd give a yaoi porn comic credit for.

tl;dr I'd like to hear your favorite plot-heavy webcomics! Finished or ongoing, quiltbag a plus but not required.

The only 'plot heavy' comics I read that are worth reading from scratch are Gunnerkrigg Court and Zebra Girl. I still read Earthsong, but it's story is a bit nonsensical and has been redone a hundred times by now. Charby the Vampirate is just a clusterfluff of all the characters the creator thought were 'cool'. I don't really know why I keep reading it as her petty journals for the past few years have really bugged me...(Charby is a Scary Stu if I've ever seen one, that she hates on other people who do the same was just silly to me :X)

Seconding this as many times as humanly possible.

I keep wanting to get the hardcopy book set for my family for Christmas, but it's too late now. Maybe I'll try to order it for my mom's birthday.

Do you like science fiction? READ SPACETRAWLER, READ IT, READ IT NOW.

Spacetrawler (first strip: http://spacetrawler.com/2010/01/01/spacetrawler-4/ ) is a science fiction strip about 6 humans from around the globe who get abducted by aliens to assist in the struggle for the liberation of an alien slave race, and everything that happens to them afterwards. It's funny, thoughtful, entertaining, and interesting. It has some really, really great characterization (Marina is one of my favorite characters ever), it has a very good portrayal of human-alien relationships (never in a weird, creepy way at all, just interesting), really interesting plot that's never too heavy, and a really light, humorous touch.

Seriously, read it, it's really good and more people need to read it.

Lackadaisy - it updates very slowly, but it's very very good - and the artwork is amazing!
A Redtail's Dream - unique plot, Love the characters, updates daily, and the artwork is also amazing
The Dreamer - The artwork, and I'm a huge history nerd so the historical bits are a huge plus
Strays Online - Interesting world, awesome characters, and well done plot
The Phoenix Requiem - Finished, but the plot has some amazing twists and it has some of my favorite characters ever [plus, I like how one of the main characters is also mentally ill *without* being a bad guy]
Plume - Kickass female lead, steampunk world

POWER NAP (http://www.powernapcomic.com/): A science-fiction story about a society that runs 24-hours-a-day on anti-sleep pills, and the miserable pencil-pusher who has a deathly allergy to the pills. He fights crime!

What Birds Know (http://fribergthorelli.com/wbk/): Three young women inadvertently enter a warped kingdom on a camping expedition. They uncover an ancient tragedy. They...lay eggs?

The Wormworld Saga (http://www.wormworldsaga.com/chapters/chapter01/index.php): A boy with a vivid imagination, facing the prospect of being sent off to a boarding school due to his poor grades, tries to enjoy his summer vacation as best he can. He finds a portal to a vivid, massive forest in his attic, jumps in, and gets cut off from his home. He's going to fight crime!

Spera (http://spera-comic.com/): A princess rescues a fellow princess when her power-hungry mother sacks the other princess's kingdom and murders her father in battle. They flee on the back of a flaming dog/gentlemanly Renaissance man to the mystical land of Spera, where they fight crime!

Order of Tales (http://www.rice-boy.com/order/): The son of the last surviving member of the Order of Tales is forced to go on a journey to find the last and greatest story, "The Ascent of the Bone Ziggurat." He meets a woman made out of glass. They run away from crime!

Monster Pulse (http://www.monster-pulse.com/): A mysterious organization is conducting research on mysterious organisms that attack children and "possess" their organs. Four kids with possessed organs fight crime!

If you don't mind crossover webcomics, than I would heavily suggest Roommates and Girls Next Door, both of which can also be found in their own group.

In short, Roommates deals with Jareth from Labyrinth and Erik from The Phantom Of The Opera being, well, roommates in a University after both the events of their movies/novels have come to pass. Girls Next Door deals with their girlfriends (Sarah and Christine) living together in a room above theirs. Oh, and this university is FULL of characters from different canons and movies like James Norrington, Javert, Professor Gandalf, Eponie, Valjean, Aziraphale, Crowley, Luna Lovegood, Sweeny Todd, Legolas, Dr. House, The Tenth Doctor, and lots more.

Surprisingly for a series that deals with a murderer and a Goblin King, it's actually quite plot-heavy (even if you don't realize it from the start) and deals a lot about meta-fiction and book tropes "Can you change your fate?" "Can you change your designated bad-guy status without disrupting the book's/movie's status quo?" and the characters actually grow and develop relationships along the way, as well as deal with the consequences of your actions.

Even if you don't know Labyrinth or The Phantom of The Opera, I still suggest taking these two webcomics a try. That's how I first started, despite knowing nothing of Labyrinth, and now I am a dedicated fan.

Also, you might be jumping into new fandoms after you read both just to see what's so good about the supporting characters (I became a Good Omens fan because of both).

PS: Ever heard of the Erlkonig? You might want to brush up on him...
