That moment when the neat stylized art in a comic you like gets replaced by workmanlike 'realism'

Sometime around the end of the No Man's Land event in the Batman comics, the artist for Nightwing moved to do art for the main Batman title, which at least makes up for some of the lamer stories Larry Hama came up with at the time. So at least he stayed within the Bat-family -- but I honestly preferred the old style for Nightwing.

I'm sorry to hear that. I always hate when changes like that happen >

Gross. I fucking hate realistic artwork in comics. If I wanted realistic looking images, I'd watch a live-action comic book movie instead.

It gets even more annoying when they redo the story from scratch in that new style....and a year or so down the road their art changes, AGAIN, and it's LOLREDUXPARTDEUX 8D

Deathtoll, don't you know? "Realism" indicates that the series has become "gritty" and "dark" and unafraid to shirk from the truth!

who is deathtoll

In seriousness tho, Nightwing had always been a bit gritty since it started (I mean, come on, the series began in the 1990s) and so far that hasn't changed. It's just the art is boring now. :(

For some reason, I always think of your username as "Deathtoll" rather than "Dethtoll." I'm sorry for the typo. D:

If it helps, this is where my username comes from.

All of Duke 3D's music was in MIDI format with only 8 characters to a filename max, as was the standard of the time. This particular song, "Taking the Death Toll," was in the files as dethtoll.mid. It was the music for Episode 1 Level 2, but it was also the default music for user-made maps, so I heard it a lot.

So when I needed a username for LJ all those years ago, I still played that game quite a bit and ended up picking dethtoll for it. :)

/shit you don't care about

It could just be me, but that track sounds great for a MIDI.

Ugh, I hate that. And DC and Marvel are the worse for that. I have no idea what TPTB are thinking. To go from a stylize comic art in one issue to someone that is almost 180 to that style. I've never like photorealistic art in comics. Though I am not sure why. There has to be a comic version of "The Uncanny Valley" and that's my problem with it. Though I have no idea to what it is called.
