So. There's this fic I need to write (someone requested it so it's more need-to-write than just OH HAI RANDOM IDEA) about how Character A isn't happy being a woman but doesn't wish to be a man either.

Does anyone know of any good places to look for resources to read up about this sort of thing? I don't want to fuck it up or handle it insensitively but I've never written anything that directly focuses on this sort of exploration of self-identity.

What you're thinking of is gender identity disorder, I think, or a less extreme version of the same. Characterized by, among other things, "Long-standing disquiet about the sex assigned or a sense of incongruity in the gender-assigned role of that sex."

Yes but no?

GID is going to point primarily to trans* resources, which is relevant but not exactly quite what it sounds as if anon is looking for.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genderqueer would probably be more helpful, IMO.
