Nothing to add except drive-by love for a awesome book series.

Also--everyone I knew read those books when we were kids. Yes, even the boys. Maybe it was because we're Canadian and it's a national pride thing ad the library had like ten copies, but yeah. My sister loaned me her copies when I was five and I went through them in like, two weeks.

I...don't think any of us ever mistook Matthew and Marilla for married though? I forget. It's been a long time.

P.S. L.M. Montgomery has other great books beyond just the Anne series! Jane of Lantern Hill and The Blue Castle were the other ones I read and they were excellent too.

I don't know if it's a Canadian thing. My family is American and my brothers both read the Anne series as kids, too--before I did, even, since they're older than I am.

I'll add the Emily novels to your rec list, if you don't mind. It's been a few years, but I seem to remember quite liking them. :D

The Emily novels were great! While the Anne series will always be a childhood favorite, in many ways the Emily trilogy is better.

I have a special nostalgic fondness for the Anne novels, too! When my brothers and I were little, our mother read them aloud to us (through Rainbow Valley).

My whole family loves L.M. Montgomery! My grandma gave me her childhood copies of the Anne books, and I regularly got other books on birthdays and Christmases. Magic for Marigold is my favorite.

... In fact, those books might have been how I first learned what Canada was. /o\ /American

My vote for The Story Girl and Akin to Anne as other great LM Montgomery books.

I was a teenager when the miniseries came out, so, yeah, I burned through everything LMM in fairly short order, LOL.

The Emily books never got enough love, especially in comparison to Anne. I think my favorite L.M. Montgomery is still A Tangled Web.
