I wear tights every day without fail (unless I'm wearing an ankle-length skirt). In the summer, I sometimes wear sheer pantyhose instead, but usually stick to the tights. I am under no religious obligation to dress modestly.

I am guessing the unpopular part comes from the reason they are wearing them?

Maybe they do it because it makes them feel more modest? Even if so, I don't see anything wrong with that (I tend to err on the side of modesty myself) but I can see why that would be a slightly unpopular opinion.

Unless you're wearing them as pants, I don't think there's any problem (not that I would be overly-fussy if you DID wear them as pants).

I'm lucky enough not to overheat in them, thank goodness! I don't find it that much cooler to go bare-legged.

Oooh, I like this idea, actually. I don't think I'm particularly modest, but I'm really uncomfortable with my bare legs showing, and even tights would have to be more comfortable than wearing jeans/long pants all the time in Texas during the summer with my car's AC broken.

The sheer pantyhose really helps, since it makes me feel as if my legs are properly covered while allowing them to "breathe" (if that makes sense) in hot weather.
