Re: Roll call! Line up, everybody!
(Anonymous) 2012-12-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)And while I have nothing against WalMart employees (I've had quite a few jobs working minimum wage) it's so nice to know the OP thinks civil servants with advanced degrees, like the people who educate your children and invest in them a lifetime love of reading, have the same education/experience/workload as a Walmart employee.
Re: Roll call! Line up, everybody!
(Anonymous) 2012-12-18 04:01 am (UTC)(link)I worked retail jobs and fast food jobs through high school and college and worked as a library assistant through grad school. As a professional librarian now? My job requires an MLIS and also - amazingly - involves decisions that could affect hundreds. More than hundreds, given our circulation and program numbers. And in public libraries we deal with stalkers, verbal abuse, threats of physical violence and more (and that was just this past week) and we do it while working our butts off to make sure the public has free access to information. Because we believe it is an important part of our society. But you know, it's just an every day job. No big deal.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-18 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)But whatever, OP. Don't know why I would need any sort of expertise to teach a subject.
Re: Roll call! Line up, everybody!
(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 03:40 am (UTC)(link)I'm in the process of applying to grad school for library and information science (probably with a focus on children/teens!) and...yeah. Teachers and librarians, man. They TOTALLY don't affect peoples lives, right?
...and also OP really does need to work a couple minimum wage jobs.
