To Sir, With Love

[personal profile] leisuretime 2012-12-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I just watched To Sir, With Love for the first time. I get that it was probably supposed to be revolutionary for its time or something, but now -- when we have Stand and Deliver and a whole slew of "teachers help 'bad' students be better people" movies...I just found it sorely lacking.

I mean, Sidney Poitier shows up, yells at everyone, admonishes the girls for sluttiness (and I'm still not really sure what led to that moment...), takes them to a museum, and then they pretty much all love him. Sure, there's the kid he has to punch in the gut to get some respect, and the girl who fancies him and a brief lesson in racism, but that's not even a third of the movie.

I guess maybe you have to be a child of the 60s...

I'm a child of the 80s but had no problem putting it into context, so I actually really liked it. I'm sorry you didn't. It definitely is one of those movies that is fixed in time and place.
