Re: UHH, TRIGGER WARNING MAYBE? MENTAL ILLNESS, DRUGS

You can absolutely change your sponsor. And it's not really a formal thing where you show up and some boss points a finger and says "You will be a pair!" When you meet somebody at the meetings who seems like a good fit with you -- preferably someone who's had some success with the program -- you actually ask them if they would like to be your sponsor. And all that really means is you get together one-on-one sometimes and help each other. Your sponsor isn't *better* than you, and if you decide it's not working between the two of you, you don't have to continue working with them. You can pick someone else, or pick no one, and just attend the group meetings, if that's more your speed.

And I barely said a word to anyone for a long time at meetings, and it took a while to find that one person I was comfortable talking with one-on-one. And that's okay. It's all part of a process, and we all figure our best way through it as we go along.
