If OP is actually at the point of being addicted to the internet, then s/he needs to seek help and be encouraged to do so, not be patted on the back for developing an ineffectual coping mechanism that adversely affects other people.

This. Further, I don't insist that nobody ever cause conflict in social settings just because it makes it harder for me--that would be more equivalent to telling OP to "just quit [their] addiction". I ask that people not behave in ways that selfishly and unnecessarily cause stress and disharmony in a public setting just because it benefits them, whether that benefit is making the situation easier for them in way [x] or getting their kicks because they think it's funny or looking good to other SJWs/trolls/whatevers.

Problems of your own are not a free pass to mistreat others, and being deliberately rude and belligerent in order to cause drama falls under that. The other people in the comm are, in fact, people too and deserve to be treated with respect.

ETA: Which is to say, what I said is more equivalent to "Why don't you learn coping strategies that don't involving shitting all over everyone else?" not "Why don't you get over your addiction?" They are rather different sentiments.
