Hating a real person is different from disliking a fictional character. Hate is stronger than mere dislike (the word OP used), for one thing. If someone told me they hated my sister, I would think they were an ass. For one thing, why are you telling me this? She might not be perfect (and I would know--I'm the one who shared a bedroom with her for six years), but she's my sister. That's just uncalled for. If someone told me they dislike my sister, on the other hand, or just don't want to spend time around her, I would just shrug it off. She's my sister. She's not perfect. She can be annoying and petty, and not every person is going to have a personality, set of interests, etc. that are compatible with hers. Unless you're a geek social fallacy subscriber, I'm sure you can accept that part of life is people you like not always liking each other.

Also, fictional characters are not real people. They can be inspiring, entertaining, etc., but they don't have feelings to hurt, and, ultimately, the worlds they inhabit are flawed by the imperfections of their writer(s). If someone dislikes a character for not being believable or because (s)he belong to a genre that doesn't "work" for them, is that really worth being upset over?

Well, I mean, you're right, but this is a community where a person can think another person is literally evil, and the kind of person who is likely to abuse their spouse or kill a pet, because they took a little bit of schadenfreude in seeing TNG get retconned out of existence by the events of NuTrek

so, you know, there's only so much you can expect from f!s in this regard

(you're totally right though)

...but nu!Trek didn't retcon TNG out of existence.

/totally missing the point

+1

It's a separate universe, and its fans can feel free to pry Data out of my cold, dead hands. /Less said about Nemesis the better

well yeah it was a really, really stupid argument
