Re: Episode morals that make you mad?

I'm....not sure if this is a moral per se, but I hated that the audience was supposed to be touched and saddened and sympathetic at the part in "The Last Of The Time Lords" where the Doctor cries over the Master and begs him to regenerate and come have buttsex with him for all eternity travel with him and be forgiven for all the shit he did and the billions of people he killed because the Doctor will be so ~lonely~ without him otherwise because them lowly human apes can't compare to a Time Lord even if he's an evil shitstain excuse for a Time Lord, and then cradles the Master's dead body and sobs over it like it's a huge personal tragedy crafted just to make him suffer while right in front of the people the Master tortured and enslaved for the past year.

Dude, I'm all for second chances and mercy, and I get that it sucks for your old bff and the only other living member of your species to die, but it. Is. Not. About. You. Go wait until you can cry in private, and acknowledge that hurt people > your grief and threat to the universe > your desires and loneliness.

I felt sympathy for him and thought he was being really creepy as well. He wanted to keep the Master as some kind of prisoner/pet, and hold it out as this big martyrdom he was undertaking for the Master's own good. I think he was really lonely and twisted and sick there.

I hadn't thought about how wrong it would appear to the other humans in the room, though. That's a good point.

I felt pretty sorry for the doctor because it was just so messed up. My God. How disturbed and lonely do you have to be to desperately want the companionship of someone who has tried to murder you and/or fuck your shit up time and time again and who tortured your dear friends? That just struck me as sad in a pathetic kind of way. Plus, they had such a very long history together and they had a strong bond no matter how toxic it was. I can see how someone would be very distraught over losing that, even if the person was a total douche. Sobbing and begging in front of all the people that the master had abused was definitely tasteless to say the least, but he was kind of mad with grief at the moment and I guess it's hard to ask someone to act rational in that kind of situation.

I agree with this, and I wouldn't have minded the scene if it had been portrayed that way. But it was all sappy violin scores and long pauses and Simm and Tennant gazing into each other's eyes like starcrossed lovers and everyone standing in awe like "oh poor tinkerbell jesus what a wounded lonely soul I weep for him." If the scene had been portrayed as raw and twisted and insane and haphazard and right in the heat of the moment, I wouldn't have minded nearly as much.

Tbh, I was far more offended by the episode's director (and writer, I suppose) than I was by Ten's actions, which weren't exactly horrible or anything out of context but just looked so damn self-absorbed and tasteless in the scene itself because of the manner in which it was played.
