Even as a Stiles fan, the presents crossed a line with me. Especially the big screen TV. Maybe that was supposed to be funny, but it came across as a little bit creepy. And I used to like Stydia.

Here's the thing though - Stiles would back off if Lydia told him to, or if she told him he was creeping her out. I think I'm reading the whole presents thing like the show producers want me to - definitely over the top, a little pathetic, but just Stiles being ridiculous. The kid's got some attention and boundary problems, but it's not malicious in any way.

And really? People are okay with PETER's behavior around Lydia enough to ship them, but not STILES'? YeahNO.

DA - Stiles' behavior toward Lydia mostly started to creep me out the last few episodes, when she made it pretty abundantly clear that she was still in love with Jackson and he was still being pretty clingy/weird about it. The fact that he was still talking about his 10 year plan to woo her over after the crap with Jackson nearly dying is just... I dunno. It rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think he's malicious about it, either, but he did still end up coming across as a bit of a Nice Guy. Also, I agree that Stiles would probably back off if she told him to, but it's kind of shitty that he can't just, you know, take the pretty unsubtle hints that have been thrown his way that she's really not into him. He either needs to actually tell her that he likes her and see what she says - and then honor that - or back off. Although from the sounds of it, he will be backing off next season, so here's hoping that whole storyline is handled well. Especially since I think Stiles and Lydia would make awesome friends.

I agree about Peter, though. I love him as a character, and I have no problem with people shipping it if they're so inclined, but there is absolutely no way I want to see that happen in canon. Peter is pretty mentally unstable and, you know, a murderer who basically mind-raped Lydia for most of last season in order to accomplish his own ends. I do not trust him not to do the same thing he's been doing for the entire series and fuck over her and everyone else around him for his own personal gain. Bringing in any sort of romantic element would just be skeezy to no end. (I do think that the majority of Peter/Lydia shippers realize just how fucked up the pairing is and acknowledge that, though. Or so I would hope.)

I....don't know that I've ever seen anyone say they were ok with Peter's behavior but not Stiles'? I know I'm certainly not. I don't ship Peter/Lydia even remotely. I know there are those who do, but I didn't think they were the same people criticizing Stiles for his behavior.

Eh, it's sort of implied, especially when people discuss Stiles being "out of the way" for Peter (see posters above and below on this thread...)

Wanting another person "out of the way" for your favorite ship isn't the same as hating a behavior in one person and endorsing it in another. You're really reaching. If you don't like the Peter/Lydia ship, fine. I don't either. But just preferring Peter/Lydia to Stiles/Lydia isn't automatic evidence of hypocrisy.
