There's also the fact that Q is a self-assured snarky bastard who doesn't take Bond's crap. Yeah, Bond thought Q was an upstart kid when he first saw him, but was already changing his mind by the end of that first conversation. When they later work together, it goes really well, and while they snark at each other they obviously respect each other's expertise. Bond follows Q's directions unquestioningly during the train chase, and later asks for his help. Q trusts in Bonds skills completely when directing him.

I suggest you watch the movie again.

Oh, I will! I've already watched it twice at the cinema, and plan to go at least once more. I utterly adored how well they worked together, apart from how wonderful the rest of the film was.

There's also the dynamic between them illustrated in a myriad of little things. Like that complete non-reaction from Q at Bond's comment about spots, his utterly confident smile, his needling of Bond, the way Bond responds, and the final handshake when they say each other's codenames and start to realise how well they communicate.

There's then the utter conviction that Bond will do exactly as Q says when they're chasing Silva in the Tube, and the fact that Bond, of course, does. There's the moment before that, when Bond discovers a pattern in the code Q is trying to decipher, and Q immediately trusts Bond to be right and tries it. Q also talks to Bond like an equal, if not a superior; "put your back into it!" And Bond responds in kind.

As I said before, they also represent one of the themes in the film, and how it's resolved, so it works on a meta level as well!

Then there's Q's utter ignorance about the locked door he tries to send Bond through, and Q's almost blitheness about the danger Bond is in when the train is coming, almost getting him killed. So yeah, Bond has a lot of respect for Q's skills after that.

Oh, right, and Q is the one who lets Silva hack the system to begin with by plugging Silva's computer into Mi6's network for no good reason. What a doof.
