The thing about Death Note, is that because of the antagonist nature of the two main sects, I'm not surprised that fans get caught in the rivalry and feel like they need to Team Something.

Certainly doesn't help that neither sect; let it be Light, Misa etc, or L, Mello and Near; are not at least a bit morally questionable. At least with Light a good proportion of people found him repulsive; I'm still amazed on how the way L prioritise his ego over preventing mass murders gets glorified.
