Actually there were no elves at Helm's Deep, they were busy defending their own lands from attacks. Also, Eomer was at Helm's Deep for the whole battle, the force that came in and helped defeat the attackers was led by a random Rohirim commander.

Random fact: I never read the Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith parts of the books until after the movies.
