Your aunt sounds like one of my grandmothers. I got make up from her every single year when I was a teenager, despite never ever wearing the stuff. It kind of hurt my feelings, since it felt less like a gift misfire and more like her trying to convince me I needed to wear it.

Pretty much. But, eventually, that side of the family stopped coming by (we never did big gatherings and being poor, we didn't have the gas to drive 2-3 hours out of town to go visit them), so....luckily that stopped.

I feel slightly bad not getting to know them well, but....we were never close to that side to begin with. *shrug*

My grandpa was just stuck in his ways, so I didn't pay too much mind to that and instead boxed the dolls and gave them away.

I never really got to know my father's side of the family either. I don't regret it, though, as they're middle class assholes who think they're better than us. My father's parents also never felt like calling me by my real name. (They called me Natalie, my name is Natalia. I always hated that)
