you'd be surprised at how good some people are at hiding financial troubles, even from close family members living under the same roof

like, this happens for real all the time

I have been for over 20 years. It's the fact that they have always sent a small amount of money along with a card that was specifically for me (To Our Daughter type cards) but this year they didn't do either.
