I do a fair amount of memoir, personal essay writing and that's all in first.

I never ever write fanfic in first person, and I almost never ever read fanfic written in first person either.

I almost exclusively write fiction in close third; I don't mind reading omniscient third; I just have a huge problem writing it. Like, I just can't. LOL

I think that second person can be very powerful; I have written one or two things from that POV, and I have read a handful of fics and short stories in second person POV that are really effective. I think second person requires brevity, though. I have no desire to read a novel in second person.

Thanks for letting me know. I love hearing about how other people react to different writing styles. It's always so different and, I don't know, I always find it so interesting.

Me too.

I like your observation that second person can be creepy. I think it's because second person is often used to create either ambiguity (who is speaking here? what exactly is going on?) or a sense of immediacy and tension.

Yeah, it might also have to do with the fact the writers who I've read who used second person did it precisely because its rarity gave them an extra layer of unsettling to work with. They mostly wrote horror.

I've read a few horror pieces in second person, too, and they were really effective. Unsettling is a good word for it.

I love second, and I'm trying to get better at writing horror, so this makes me happy.

Yay!

I wish you all the creepiest. LOL
