That kind of line is what made me react to the book with a resounding "meh". It's very...it treads that fine line where if you're on board with it, it feels very profound and affecting, but if not it just feels affected and like it's trying to be profound and sucking at it.

Also, I pretty much hate it every time a first-person narrator is praised by another character for how great their writing is, because it feels like the author is complimenting themselves on their writing. That happens in Perks (the book) a lot.
