Have you ever sat back and wondered at your life? Like, when reading a book and all these people are doing these amazing things, or a biography of someone who changed the world and you just look at yourself and wonder how is it that you're working in a shop and...well...is this it?

How do you cope with that? Knowing that in the long run, nothing you or the people you know will change much?

I'm not complaining, nor am I sad, nor is this a 'wah my life is pointless' kind of thing.

Sometimes I just think: "Gosh, isn't the world big?"

I feel that way when I realize people I knew in college are becoming really successful (I'm talking one published a book, a couple worked behind-the-scenes for major TV shows, one won a goddamn Emmy) and I'm still living with my parents and working in a retail job that I hate more than words can explain. I look at them and I think that hey, I could do big things like that too, but I probably won't for reasons.

I cope by not really giving much of a shit about the long run. I do what I can to make my life pretty swell, and I try to make other people's lives pretty swell, too. I don't really care that I'm not saving the world or anything because frankly, I'm not equipped for that. The world would be screwed. But I can make people's personal worlds a little better, and that's good enough for me.
