Stories or books you've read that we're once good but now suck

Ever since getting my writing side back on, I've been making a Rise of The Guardians fanfic in my spare time, left it unfinished for a few days, then came back later to end it only to find out that the writing sucks. I've already discontinued it from pure embarrassment, and that gave me a thought.

So F!S, any stories or fanfics that you once thought were pure gold but later turned out to be crap?

Stories or fanfics that we've read or written? Read, sure.
Written... I don't want to talk about it.

Oh, man. Almost everything I read and loved in the first year I found fandom. I was not a discerning reader at that point.

Depending on my mood, I either adore my fic or loathe it like poison. It's ALWAYS pacing issues. Always.

Warriors, but I'm a sucker for how things are going, so I'm sticking with it. *just started OotS now*

Here's hoping the Dawn of the Clans or whatever is going to be better without all the ~magical cats!1~.

Oh yeah.

Tying into the Star Wars thread above, most of the 90s EU novels. Holy crap did I love those back when I was in my teens. Holy crap, are most of them awful on a reread. I think Courtship of Princess Leia wins for the ratio of how much I liked it at the time vs. how terrible it actually is.

Similarly, the Dragonriders of Pern novels, which I discovered sometime around the age of 13. Fantastic to my dragon-mad teenage self. Mostly meh when I reread them at 18. Holy crap, Mary Sue dragons, misogyny, and rapey as fuck to my 22 year old self. (I'd still give most of my material wealth for a pet fire-lizard, though!)
