OP, the exact same thing happened to me. You're not alone.

It gets better with time though, or at least it did for me. When I think about this now, I have a positive memory of something fictional that affected me emotionally like nothing else before, making me feel deeply for characters I love.

Also, Rose Tyler is awesome, and it's a great inspiration to have. And yes, she gets a lot of hate, but the fandom generally doesn't mind her and there are a lot of people that really love her.
