I won't touch the "real nerds" things, but the my husband works in the physics and he can't watch the show because--as he says-- it's basically "use a lot of big science terms that don't necessarily make sense, but dumb people don't understand it so it makes the characters sound really smart and above everyone else" that makes him not capable of watching it. He finds it patronizing.

Oh, that's fine. Like, I have no issue with people criticizing it. I also can't watch a lot of it because I feel like their portrayal of nerd culture is really cliché and untrue to my experience (though I'll watch it occasionally for the character interactions). I was talking about more how there's this meme about how a real nerd wouldn't watching because of the inaccuracies and stereotypes. Some nerdy people know it's really flawed but like the show anyways. Nerds aren't by default more cultured or more intelligent, and even those who are can enjoy dumb shows too.

That's interesting, because I know a few people who have science degrees (not physics though, I believe) and they love the show. I've frequently discovered that there are jokes that go over my head which they get and enjoy.

They are probably pretending to make themselves feel superior to you. People with science degrees are like that.

I'm glad that I know much better people with science degrees than you apparently do.

There are a couple in there, but obviously the writers aren't theoretical physicists so it's not going be something to look to for your science facts.
