Cheap Shampoo for Oily Hair

(Anonymous) 2012-12-21 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I've looked around the Internet, but I can't seem to find any good solid advice, so I thought it couldn't hurt to ask here. I have extremely oily, fine hair and I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced shampoo that won't leave my hair feeling like a greasy mess 12 hours later.

I've tried Herbal Essences, Pantene and TreSemme and they all leave a ton of build up and my hair ends up being super gross. So, any other cheap-ish shampoos that work well on oily hair? I would just spring for Redken or Matrix since I know they work, but I'm on a severely limited budget atm and can't afford them.

Alberto VO5 has worked wonders for me

This one says it has silk protein (the one I'm using has the label say in Spanish "liso y sedoso"... "straight and silky"?)

Try Organix? I don't know what prices will be like in your region (I'm from overseas) but it should be fairly reasonable: http://www.organixhair.com/

Most of their shampoos are formulated for all hair types - for oily hair you might try cherry blossom ginseng, or tea tree mint. Their shampoos are mild, which is really what you want - it's possible to exacerbate oiliness by shampooing too much.

With oily hair, too much oil is being produced at the scalp, and coating the strands. Thing is, you do need a certain amount for healthy hair, so you can't strip the oils completely, or you'll just prompt your body into overproducing oil yet again. Vicious cycle, yeah? So the best thing for you is probably a gentle shampoo that will take away some (but not) all the oils. Shampoo every other day at most (I usually suggest twice a week, but you may need to do so more regularly depending on your hair). It may take a little time to see the full results, but it should happen within a couple of weeks.

Even if Organix doesn't work for you, hopefully some of that info helps in choosing another shampoo!

I don't know about the brand as I have never tried it (sounds pretty cool, actually), but seconding the tips. For some hairs, washing every day will only make it worse.

Suave. I kid you not. I went through so many brands of shampoo, from organic to crazy expensive salon stuff. And what I've found works best for me is Suave Specifically Suave professionals invigorating clean rosemary mint. Separate shampoo and conditioner. Cheap, effective, and smells awesome.

I buy 1kg Palmolive with aloe vera. It does a good job of making my hair not oily and being gentle on my psoriasis scalp
