Okay, this is kind of a jump away from what you're talking about, but you just made a lightbulb go off in my head about why I loved season 5 so much but hated season 6. It's the "dude, how are these two side-by-side episodes even part of the same show, let alone the same season?" factor.

Also, I agree with you for season 1 versus season 2-4. The melodrama seemed to relegate the traveling and adventuring -- aka, the actual point of the show -- to the role of filler episodes.
