Lettuce Wraps (stupid rant ahoy)

How hard is a lettuce wrap? Throw crap into a lettuce leaf, wrap the leaf around the crap, maybe a toothpick to keep it together. Boom, done.

I wanted to make a bunch of little wraps for goodie day at work. Three attempts in (and one near finger amputation later), I went "fuck it" and tossed it all in a bowl. I'm bringing a salad for goodie day tomorrow.

Stupid #$%^** healthy snack options! Next time I'm buying cookies, and you'll like it! >:|

Ha. I didn't even make a salad today for our work Christmas dinner. No one ever eats my salads anyway. I did the laziest thing and just bought a premade veggie tray.

Yum yum. I love lettuce and cabbage wraps, though. Good meal.

What were you putting in yours?

Last time I made cabbage wraps I put in rice noodles, chick peas, red bell pepper, and my special sauce that I just call my Yum Yum Sauce. (Sriracha sauce, lime juice triple the amount of Sriracha sauce, a splash of mandarin orange juice, toasted, roughly ground sesame seeds to give texture and thickening and crushed cilantro leaves - enough to give the sauce a cilantro-y flavor and green color.)

A bit of turkey, cucumber, carrot, a very little red onion, and cheddar. I had salad dressings on the side, so people could pour over or dip what they liked.

The trick is to make the filling, then put the lettuce for wrapping in a separate bowl and let people suffer making their own wraps. And laugh at them quietly if you're still feeling angry.

I fucking love lettuce wraps. They don't hold together, though. When I make them, I serve dishes of fillings and a dish of lettuce leaves and let people roll their own.
