I agree!

I think a lot of times people define a "strong female character" simply by how much ass she kicks and how many men she explicitly does not need. Dory has moments of kickass and she's very much not a love interest, which is awesome, but she's so memorable and refreshing because she's way more than that. She's flighty and forgetful, but smart and fearless. She's a comic relief, but she's not useless: after all, she's the only one who could read the words on the diving mask. She's forgiving and upbeat, but can be dead serious when necessary.

Even though she's a fish, as a character she comes very close to being a whole, complete person instead of an archetype. Merida fits the "rebellious princess who don't need no man" to a T, and although I really enjoyed and appreciated the mother/daughter story in Brave, she wasn't nearly as memorable of a character as Dory.

(Also people who are saying Jessie: yes. Jessie is awesome for many of the same reasons that Dory is.)
