AYRT - I totally agree about the FEMALE!characters. Shitty writers are going to screw up most of their characters, really. I think they usually just get less criticism of their white dude characters since there are more of them around, so people aren't stuck in that weird mindset that all characters that are white and male represent all white males everywhere.

That said though, I dont' think there's anything wrong with writers challenging themselves. But I'd rather have a general "lets get some ideas I'd never have and see if I can do them, give me your requests folks" sorta deal or go to one of the memes, kink or otherwise. If that makes your work more diverse, go for it. I just don't think any one thing as simple as "write about this group or peoples" is the universal answer.
