Re: Comfort Food
If I can at least stand up to move around a kitchen and not drop stuff everywhere, it's a particular baked chicken dish that has a weird family history - originally my grandmother's cook used to make a version with a sauce made with butter, lemon juice, slivered garlic, and tons of black pepper; then my parents took it over, swapped the proportions of butter and lemon juice, cut out the black pepper completely, and added a ton of paprika; my version uses their proportions, cuts way back on the paprika, uses about half of the cook's black pepper, and tosses in some basil and thyme for good measure. It's not terribly good for you, what with all the butter. but it's so good and the lemon/garlic combo cuts right through the gunk from a cold. I like it served with rice (to soak up the extra sauce) and broccoli steamed until it's tender (none of this crisp-tender stuff when I'm under the weather - but not all the way to mushy, that's no good either).
