(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 05:23 am (UTC)(link)The original tale did not have this guy, though, so he IS awkwardly shoehorned in. By all rights it should have been a girl standing next to the heroine in that picture, since it's solely women she adventured with in the story while Kai cooled his heels waiting for rescue, but it's Some Dude, which doesn't bode well for other female characters.

From what I remember of it, the robber girl only lets Gerta go because... Because she finds it sweet that she's risking her life for a guy. It still comes down to Kai being the biggest motive. She's still doing everything for a guy.
Meanwhile, Olaf appears to be nothing more than a TRAIL GUIDE right now.
