Uh, can you tell me any other movie where the girl saves the boy? It's actually not that common, and especially not in the way the original source does either. Gerda's journey may started out as her trying to rescue Kai, but along the way she met so many different people and grew into a stronger character. It's a classic hero's journey, only this one's a girl.

Plus Gerda and Kai are nothing more than friends in the fairy tales, and that's great too. We need more deep, selfless, loving friendships between a boy and girl without it actually be a blatant romance.
