A lot of these comments are simply asking for creators to consider making characters female and to try to get out of the mindset that currently has male set as the baseline. I do agree that there should be more encouragement on the creative side of things, though. But it's also sometimes hard to vote with your wallet when a lot of female lead or centric things don't get made because studio execs, etc, assume that there's no market for them without even trying.
