Or too invested in it. The Ranma collab sites are horrendous right now because some psycho-fan has been shitting all over them and edit warring people into oblivion over his "One True Interpretation" of characters and events. If we were still back on fansites the worst damage the little freak could have done was put up his own character bashing site. As it is he has deformed an entire fandom due to his ceaseless antics.

Oh, wow. I was referring more to the jackassery we've seen over the years from the people who own LJ and the Pit. But yeah, psycho-fans with a bit of power over their audience sure can end up doing bad, wrong, things with it, personally as well as fannishly. Like that ONTD LJ mod who was stalking people's personal locked entries. And I know about a collab host in a long-long-long-ago fandom who basically stalked and molested a fic writer she was hosting. Power structures in internet societies can easily turn horrifying.
