I find most fandom wikis generally suck, which is kind of depressing.

I've found a handful of good ones, mostly for games, but most are terrible, full of red links and stubs, and if it was an active franchise when the wiki started you can generally figure out just when the maintainers lost interest by the latest material to actually be covered.

(The only non-game ones I've found that were any good are Memory Alpha (Star Trek) - but not Memory Beta - TFWiki (Transformers), and the Godzilla and Toho Wiki (Uh...guess. >_>).)

Yeah, the Transformers one is actually useful, and I like browsing Memory Alpha from time to time. The wiki I'm referring to is for a game and...well, last time I checked, it was as you described. When I get the time I want to grammar edit that thing so badly because as I remember, it reads like your average middle-schooler wrote it. (Not that middle-schoolers who write is a bad thing, it just...doesn't read well if you're older than that :D)

Heh...what game is it for? (Good ones, I've consulted a lot: 2 Champions Online wikis, a Dream of Mirror Online wiki, a Final Fantasy Wiki, a The World Ends With You wiki (that one's a bit careless about spoilers, but other than that...), a Megami Tensei wiki, a Warcraft Wiki, and 2 Warhammer 40k wikis - one's more concerned with the tabletop game than the novels and video games (which are what I'm into), so I prefer the other, but I do tend to consult both.)

Legend of Dragoon. Looking over the wiki now (first time in a long while), it does seem to have improved quite a bit. But the fanpage still tends to be more useful for me when I'm writing my fics.
