Steam almost literally revolutionized online game sales. It wasn't the first of it's kind, but it was by and far the best.
A lot of us got it when we got TF2 or Portal. And never looked back. And how you have joined the collective.
Sales happen weekely. Expect shit you want in the christmas and summer vacation sales.

Also, if you like first person shooters at all, get tf2. It's free! Also watch all the movies and read all the comics on the website. In fact do that even if you hate FPS. They are still very funny.
