But the fact that there are next to no well written canon gays is one of the reasons there is so much slash fanfiction in certain fandoms. I, for one, am not overly interested in fanfiction about canon gay pairings because they already are a pair in the canon material. Because the canon material is usually enough for me. People write fanfiction if they want to elaborate on some aspects of the canon material, be it grand plotlines or just simple pairing stuff/porn they wish the canon had.
