I'm almost certain Vastra and Jenny were together last time; it was heavily implied, anyway. Not sure if they were married at the time though! That was a nice touch. Those two were probably my favorite part of the entire episode.

As for Clara, I DO like her, but as you've said, she isn't exactly breaking any new ground here. It's good that she has a sense of humor, is spirited and clever, but nothing about her stands out. And I agree that the 'companions flirting with the Doctor' thing is old. (Even if she is adorable while flirting. I hope they keep it 'light-hearted' and to a minimum and don't make it into some huge, recurring deal.)

IDK about anyone else, but Ian McKellen was distracting for me. From the first time I heard his voice a part of me screamed, "WHERE IS GANDALF, FOR I MUCH DESIRE TO SPEAK WITH HIM."
