Even as a fan of the new series....yeah, the depressingness and "lol it's all crap do you want this crap or that crap? Either way, you'll still be miserable and guilty and all your nice things will be taken away" really goes too far sometimes to the point of desensitizing viewers to the pain of hard choices.

I was so sure it was just a nice explorative period that we were going to leave that behind when season 5 ended on such a deliriously happy and joy-filled and positive note (the death toll was in the negative numbers!) ...and then we got season 6. *facepalm*

Seriously, if I want a Crapsack World done right, I'll go reread the Sprawl trilogy for the ten thousandth time.

In all fairness, when it comes to how the series ends, Series 1, 4, and 7 end with the Doctor "dying", so they naturally are going to be a bit dramatic and sad. And then 2 ends with Rose leaving, which is a natural part of her being written out and is also bound to be depressing. So I think it's more or less the nature of the fact the show HAS to go through so many actors.

So there's 3 and 5 that didn't end sadly. I guess season 6 ends on a fairly "happy" note, if you forgive the bloody massacre of River's character lying off to the side.
