In all fairness, he could have regenerated into, say, Pertwee. Not necessarily young and hot. And not necessarily interested in women, adventure, etc. He doesn't know what he'll be.

That said, I agree. It was shameful to do that in front of Wilf, and it's almost...offensive to the viewer? Like, I can't pity the guy. When I die, I die. And I'm going to die in less than a hundred years. He's had 1000, AND he still had two more regenerations! He gets to even choose the manner of his "death" and knew it was coming. I understand scared and upset, but I can't really pity it.

He actually probably has unlimited regenerations. He's never mentioned the 12 regen limit in the new series, and there's no way in hell the BBC is gonna go "oh noes we'd love to continue this show that gets us loads of money and viewers, but the Doctor doesn't have any regenerations left so we have to end it!"

Plus at least one producer has said that the limit was a rule imposed by the Time Lords and now that they're gone, the Doctor has as many regenerations as he wants and he probably knows it full well.
