You're not Mayan. No, sorry, you're not. You're not Mayan any more than an a Norwegian is a Viking. Any more than an Iraqi is a Babylonian. A white scholar of Mayan history is more Mayan than you. Their culture and way of life was eradicated and dismantled. Native American culture, at least, has been clung on to by the tribes.

No, the "Mayan Apocalypse" didn't happen because the Mayans weren't egotistical enough to think that the world would end just because their calendar ran out. Our calendar runs out every year. The Doctor's 500-year diary runs out every semi-millennium. We (and the Doctor) just go out and get another one. That's pretty much what the remaining Maya did, plus or minus a few rituals, and they're kind of pissed that crazy people with more money than sense didn't bother looking up how the Long Count calendar actually works. Given that the Doctor might well have been around when they were writing the thing, I think he'd probably just drop in for the party.

You don't know how much I wanted to, when I went out for my errands on the 22nd, go running from the elevator, touch everyone out in the building's lobby or outside, and go "you're still alive! We're still here! THE DOCTOR DID IT! HE SAVED US AGAIN!"

And then just go about my business.

It was either the Doctor or Dethklok. Who just went finished their "cursed" tour the week before. If they can prevent the metalocalypse, they can prevent the Mayan apocalypse. And everything seemed to try to derail that tour, from legal troubles, to medical issues, to hurricane Sandy.

you know they discovered mayan writings that go further just in this year? I'm betting it was a bit of a close call, and quite a good adventure. :p
