I was never obsessed with it. I had other issues with my parents that had nothing to do with physical punishment that were totally unrelated, but it was never the bruises or pain itself that I cared about.

I know of other people who had similar experiences that turned out fine and they didn't obsess over it.

I think obsession may be more related to WHY the punishment was given, not the punishment itself. Or the individual child's personality. Usually, if kid is pretty well cared for and loved most of the time, then the punishment really isn't an issue. At least, that's how I see it.
