I thought Jessica was rather cookie-cutter, but yeah, she really doesn't deserve to be shafted. She didn't do anything wrong and Bella treated her like she didn't really exist after she tried to reach out to her. =/

Honestly, that bothers me almost as much as everything else in the books. I know that's how a lot of high school girls are, but that's not necessarily a good thing, and if Bella's supposed to be a nice person... SMeyer does a horrible job of showing it.

Yeah, Bella's "nice" I guess? I mean she's not an outright asshole most of the time. But she isn't exactly portrayed as being super sympathetic or considerate of anyone who wasn't either her parents or another species. And her aloof, uncaring attitude towards all of her classmates says a lot about her character that isn't good.
